FORT BRAGG, N.C. - This month we pay tribute to Fort Bragg kids as we celebrate Month of the Military Child. The month long celebration will
culminate on April 25 with the 17th Annual Children's Fest. The gates
will open at 10 a.m. with the first 500 children receiving a free event t-shirt. Throughout the day kids and parents can enjoy rides, activities, games, prizes and much more.



Admission is $2 with no rides and $5 for all you can ride. Children's Fest will be held at the Fort Bragg Fairgrounds.

MILITARY SPOUSE DAY CONFERENCE



MILITARY SPOUSE DAY CONFERENCE


FORT BRAGG, N.C. - It is often said that Spouses are the backbone of the Military. On May 7 and 8, Fort Bragg Army Community Service will pay tribute to these very special individuals during the 9th Annual Military Spouse Day Conference.


On Thursday, May 7, spouses can discover their creative side with workshops to include gardening, self defense, jewelry making and much more. Friday will give spouses the chance to be a Soldier for a day including the 34 foot tower, the engagement skills trainer, an obstacle course and the rappel tower.


Spouses can participate one day for $15 or both days for $25, which covers lunch and conference goodies. Child care is available on a first come first serve basis with a refundable $10 deposit. The registration deadline is May 1 or when all available slots are filled.

Lifeguard Certification Course


LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION COURSE

FORT BRAGG, N.C. - Attention teenagers! Spring break is upon us which means summer is just around the corner. Now is the time to start thinking about a summer job! Every summer, lifeguards are needed to oversee the pools and Smith Lake Swimming Beach. There is more to being a lifeguard than simply sitting by the water's edge. If you are interested in lifeguarding this summer, use your spring break to prepare for the job.


SKIESUnlimited will hold a lifeguard certification course for youth 15-18 years old April 13-17 at Tolson Youth Activities Center. The course will be conducted from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. each day. Interested participants must register with Child, Youth and School Services Central Registration. The cost of the course is $200 however, for those eligible under the Army Family Covenant, this is a free course.


All participants must pass the swimming test administered on the first day.

Walk Around the Block


WALK AROUND THE BLOCK


FORT BRAGG, N.C. - Bring the kids, load up the stroller, pack the back pack, and come out with your friends to discover all the fantastic programs that are here to support and entertain Military Families. The Fort Bragg Army Community Service Family Advocacy Program will host the 5th Annual Walk Around the Block Parents' and Kids' Fair in support of Child Abuse Prevention Month.

This year's event will have several agencies and programs from Fort Bragg and the surrounding areas on hand to provide information and answer questions. The free event will include bouncers, face painting, games and lots of free giveaways
including two free car seats. Kids can enjoy a visit with the ACS
Dragon, Fayetteville Swamp Dogs' FUNGO, Fazoli's Tomato, Anthony the Fire Ant and McGruff the Crime Fighting Dog.

Walk Around the Block will be held at Albritton Middle School from 12 to 3 p.m. on April 17. In the case of inclement weather the event will take place at Ritz-Epps Physical Fitness Center.

Youth Spring Break Junio Golf


YOUTH SPRING BREAK JUNIOR GOLF

FORT BRAGG, N.C. - It is spring break! That does not mean you have to give up on learning! The Fort Bragg SKIESUnlimited program in conjunction with Ryder Golf Course is giving youth the opportunity to learn the sport of golf. The Spring Break Junior Golf Academies will be broken out into two separate age groups.

Youth in grades 1-4 will attend April 13, 15, and 17 from 8:30 a.m to 11:30 a.m.

Youth in grades
5-12 will attend April 13, 15, and 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

The Golf Academy will include instruction, range balls, club rental and
lunch each day. The Spring Break Junior Golf Academy qualifies under
the Army Family Covenant as a free option for dependent youth of a deployed Soldier.

VENDORS WANTED!

FORT BRAGG, N.C. - Attention local artist and craft vendors! The Fort Bragg Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers (BOSS) program is looking for local craftsman and artists to showcase and sell their arts and homemade crafts during the 2009 Fort Bragg Fair. The annual event will be help April 30 through May 17 and the Fort Bragg Fairgrounds. Spaces are limited.

All interested vendors must complete an application and provide a sample product or photograph of available products. All approved vendors will receive a 10x10 space under a tent, electricity and one table and two chairs for a fee of $300. No re-sale/flea market type items will be allowed. Handmade original works are the desired product. The deadline for applications is April 10.

FORT BRAGG, N.C. - Grab the kids and head over to Tolson Youth Activities Center for the Annual Easter Carnival. On Saturday, April 11, Families are sure to enjoy a day full of games, activities and fun to celebrate the holiday beginning at 2 p.m.

Kids of all ages will enjoy an Easter Egg Hunt beginning at 3:15 p.m. Youth in grades 7th through 12th are invited to participate in the Teen Flashlight Hunt from 8-10 p.m. Both events are free. Teens wishing to participate in the Flashlight Hunt must bring their own flashlight.

FORT BRAGG, N.C. - On April 1, the Fort Bragg 82nd Auto Skills Center will close its doors for business. The last day for business will be Tuesday, March 31. Customers interested in continuing to perform maintenance on their vehicles are encouraged to visit East Fort Bragg Auto Skills, formerly known as COSCOM Auto Skills. East Fort Bragg Auto Skills is located on Blackjack Street. Beginning April 1, the facility will be open seven days a week: Monday through Friday 2-9:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

FORT BRAGG, N.C. - While it is a well-known fact that April is recognized as the Month of the Military Child, it is just as important to recognize April is also Child Abuse Awareness Month. On Monday, April 13, Fort Bragg Army Community Service's Family Advocacy Program will host Hays, Hats and Horses Riding Day in support of Child Abuse Awareness Month.

Families are encouraged to join us at the Fort Bragg Riding Stables from 2-5 p.m. for crafts, contests, pony rides, hay rides and much more! Adults and children eight years and up can enjoy a trail ride for $11 which includes the trail ride, a free cowboy hat and picture. All other events and activities throughout the day are free of charge.

Helping Hands Fashion Show


HELPING HANDS FASHION SHOW

FORT BRAGG, N.C. - While there are many days of celebration during the month of April, it is also Child Abuse Prevention Month. The Fort Bragg Army Community Service Family Advocacy Program is proud to present the Helping Hands Fashion Show.

The event is dedicated to lending a hand to prevent child abuse and neglect. The fashion show will feature fourteen Fort Bragg children ranging in age from three to eighteen sporting the latest in fashion from AAFES. The Albritton Junior High School Chorus and Dance Troupe will also perform.

Volunteer Coaches Needed

VOLUNTEER COACHES NEEDED

Fort Bragg, N.C. - Sports are a great way to help build up a child's confidence as well as build character. Fort Bragg Youth Sports and Fitness coordinates a variety of sports leagues throughout the year.

These leagues would not be possible without the volunteer coaches who help the children not only learn the sport but encourage them to have fun and be proud of the abilities. Volunteer coaches are currently needed for the youth baseball, softball and spring soccer programs.

There are children on a waiting list hoping for more teams to be established. Volunteer coaches must attend training. The spring programs last through June 6, 2009. Practices are in the evenings between 5 and 8 p.m. with games held on Saturdays between 8:30 a.m. and
2 p.m.

It's BUNCO Time

IT'S BUNCO TIME!

FORT BRAGG, N.C. - Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation is proud to bring back "It's Bunco Time!" This three month long promotion brings the family parlor game to the Fort Bragg Officer's Club.

Bunco is a fun, easy to learn game appealing to both men and women. This year "It's Bunco Time" will feature the following theme nights: Indulgence Night, Gourmet Night and Entertainment Night. Prizes will include gift cards from: Williams-Sonoma, iGourmet.com, SpaFinder.com, Bath and Body Works, Best Buy and Barnes and Noble. Smaller prizes will also be awarded to early registrants and in between the games. Additionally, Entertainment Night will feature an 8-gigabyte iPod Nano or an MP3 player.

SESAME STREET PRE-SCREENING INVITATION


Fort Bragg, N.C. - Fort Bragg Child, Youth and School Services is proud to announce the pre-screening of the Sesame Street production "Coming Home: Military Families Coping with Change." This special video is a part of the Talk, Listen, Connect series geared towards helping children cope with the many aspects of a deployment. "Coming Home" focuses specifically on the return of a combat injured Soldier.

Fort Bragg Families are being given a special invitation to attend a pre-screening of the show on March 26 and 27 at 6:30 p.m. at the Airborne and Special Operation Museum in Fayetteville.

The show will air nationwide on PBS on April 1, however, the pre-screening is recommended due to the sensitive nature of the program. If you are interested in attending the pre-screening, please contact Toni Dixon at 910-484-4242 ext 232.

The pre-screening is being conducted in partnership with Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Council, Partnership for Children and Cumberland County Schools.

Stong Beginnings


STRONG BEGINNINGS

FORT BRAGG, N.C. - Every year children prepare for their first day of Kindergarten. Fort Bragg Child, Youth and School Services is now offering Strong Beginnings to help make this transition into school easier on the children. This Army Pre-K program is designed to prepare children to be successful as they enter school.

Curriculum focuses on the social, emotional, and physical development of children as well as equipping them with the basic academic and "Kindergarten Classroom Etiquette" skills to enhance school readiness. Slots remain open for this year's program. Strong Beginnings is held at Wonderful World for Kids from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. Children must have turned four years old by August 31, 2008. This 2009 program will conclude with a graduation program on May 29.

All children must be registered with CYS Services and the cost of the program is based on total Family income. Registration for the 2009-2010 Strong Beginnings Program (children must be four by August 31, 2009) will begin on June 9.

Spring Camps will be held April 13-17 at Wonderful World for Kids (grades 1-4), Gordon Elementary Site (grades K-5) and at Tolson Youth Activities Center (grades 5-9).

The annual Military Saves week kicks off February 20 at Gavin Hall to help consumers "build wealth not debt!" The week long event will offer a variety of classes covering investing, debt management, saving and the Thrift Savings Program. All classes are open to identification cardholders and Department of Defense Civilians.

COMBAT CROSS COUNTRY RACE


COMBAT CROSS COUNTRY RACE


FORT BRAGG, N.C. - Lace up your boots and grab a few others from your Battalion or Brigade to compete in the 2009 Combat Cross Country Race. The race will be held at Smith Lake Recreational Area on Thursday, February 26 beginning at 8 a.m.


This is a team event with men's and women's divisions. All team members must be assigned to the Brigade/Battalion registered to compete. There is a minimum of six and maximum of eight team members in the men's division and a minimum of three and maximum of four in the women's division.


Pre-registration is required with the event open to the first fifty teams. All team members must wear the following during the race: full LBE, 2 full canteens with covers, first aid pouch, web belt with suspenders and two empty ammunition pouches, M16-A ½ rifle or dummy rubber rifle, BDU or ACU, combat boots and soft cap.
